Students completed the Chrome Book research on our solar system.  Homework tonight is to finish the research if you did not submit it today.

Sexual Education class begins tomorrow.  I need a permission slip to participate.

Students used the Chrome Books to investigate our solar system.  There is no homework, but if you want to bring in something from home (poster board, yarn, markers) for class tomorrow please do.

Tomorrow we will once again have the Chrome Books to complete our research.  Students have the  choice as to whether or not they would like to submit a poster or simply a written report.

Please  bring in your permission slips for sexual education class.  We  will begin the class on Friday, and you may not participate without the permission slip submitted to me. I need the slip back even if the response is "no".

Friday morning we will participate in Career Day.

Students completed the unit on weather.  Rooms 315 and 317, study guide is due on Monday.  We will review the study guide and the test will be on Tuesday.  Room 316 will not have science on Monday because of NWEA testing.  We corrected the study  guide today in class.  The test on weather will be on Tuesday.

No social studies homework.

Reminder on Monday sixth grade tests math NWEA.  On Wednesday we test NWEA reading.

Progress  reports go out on Friday.  They must be returned, signed on Monday.  No student will attend the Fun Fair without the signed progress report submitted to the homeroom teacher.

There was not homework yesterday or today.  We are finishing up our unit on weather.

We will begin studying the  change of seasons preparing for the performance  assessment.

NWEA testing for math will be given on Monday,  Testing for reading will be given on Wednesday of next week.

Students took a listening quiz on wind.  They completed and  corrected a study guide to help them for tomorrow's science test.  Homework-STUDY FOR TEST.

PARCC testing tomorrow at 8:00 and  1:00.  The science will be  given in your homeroom at 11:00.

Students learned about wind.  They took a Brain Pop quiz for fun.  Tomorrow they will listen to a Safari Montage video on wind.  This will be  taken for a listening grade.  They will receive a study guide in which we will grade together.  Students will be tested on Friday.

Today we used the Chrome Books to research Ancient Roman history and government.  There was time given to read text pages 247-253, and to answer the 3 key questions.  This is homework if it was not completed in class.

Science Current Event Magazines were passed out in order to write up a report on an article for extra credit.

  1. Today we  reviewed the map on textbook page 240, taking notes from the smart board.   We finished reading pages 244-245, using the smart board to take a closer look at that map to understand  the effects of expansion.  We took a quick quiz using page 75 to help us better understand the questions on page 76.  No homework.

Tomorrow is a field trip.  No classes.

Pages 239-245, Read each section answering the question either before it or after it.  It is the same question, just worded a bit differently.  A total of four questions.

We reviewed for Friday's test.  Due Friday is a written experiment designing a model of the water cycle.  Also, draw a diagram of both, the layers of  the atmosphere and the water cycle.  All of this should be in the notebook.  For extra credit students may elaborate on the diagrams creating something more.  For example a model, a diorama, a poster.

Students have a study guide and the opportunity to take home a workbook to study from.

Students watched a video on the layers of  the atmosphere and the water cycle.  This reinforced what they studied yesterday from their textbook.  Tomorrow we  will discuss and complete projects on both topics.  Thursday there is no school for students because of report card pick up.  Friday they will take a test on both the layers of the atmosphere and the water cycle.  They have both Wednesday and Thursday to prepare for the test.  No additional homework will be given.

Students reviewed  for tomorrow's science test on Weathering and Erosion.  I extended the deadline for sketching out the outline until tomorrow. This will help review for the test.  Students were told specific questions to study for the test.  No additional homework.

Science homework is to illustrate the outline for sections one and two, chapter 11, in the spiral.  This is due on Tuesday.  It is worth 20 points.

Students received their Social Studies tests today.  They will be working on Science, Chapter 11 for  the remainder of the week.  Students will have a Science test next week Wednesday on Chapter 11.

No homework until Tuesday, 3/31/15.  Study for the test.  As always, they may take a workbook home to study from.

The focus this week is on Social Studies.  Students began reading chapter 8, working on their inference skills.  This activity will expand later in the week to include summarizing.

Homework is to complete the two questions and Venn Diagram on Sparta and Athens.   We will begin class with this assignment.  Students will have a test on this either Wednesday or Thursday.  It all depends how the review  goes  tomorrow.

Students attended the Awards Assembly, therefore classes were  shortened.  Students presented their projects, but we did not have time for science.  The quiz is once  again pushed back.  My thoughts are review tomorrow and Thursday, quiz Friday.  The  social studies test will be   pushed  back until next week.

Tomorrow is absolutely the last day I will accept the science poster.

Students must finish the category poster on how plates move and the results of these forces for homework if they did not complete the assignment in class.  This is due tomorrow.


Important-if school is cancelled due to weather we will not have a social studies test on Friday.  Also, if class sizes are down due to weather we will not have a test on Friday.  Instead students will be given Friday to work on their research presentations.  If  all goes well, review for test on   Thursday, test Friday.

2/17/15-2/18/15

This week in science we are reviewing the ways in which plates move and the theories behind why they move.  Today students began  their review by reading and discussing  the textbook.  Next, they created a diagram labeling the three categories in which plates  move.  Tomorrow we will take it one step further by explaining the results these forces cause on Earth using the correct scientific vocabulary.  If students do not complete this assignment in class it  will be completed  as homework.  They will check out a  science workbook in order to complete  the assignment.

Remember research presentations  begin next week!  Don't procrastinate.

We will not have  science this week.  Science  tests were returned today.

In Social Studies this week we will continue our study of Ancient Greece.   I will not give any additional work for homework.  All activities will be  completed in class.  The time at home should be spent completing and preparing for the research presentation.  Students will be given tomorrow's class time to work on their research project.

Week of 2/2/15-2/6/15

Students reviewed the layers of the Earth creating a graphic organizer in their notebook.  Tomorrow we will finish our review and  students will take a test on Thursday.  They may check out a workbook if the wish to reread the section on Earth's Layers. Extra credit models of Earth's layers will be due on or before Thursday.

I will give students the rubric for their research projects tomorrow.  Thursday and possible Friday will be given to students to work on their research projects.  Clear it with your parent if you plan to work with a partner or in a small group.  Project presentations begin February 23rd.  Dates were assigned  last week.  A speaking  grade will also be given based  on the presentation.

No additional homework will be given this week.

Students received project presentation dates.  We discussed many ideas for the  research project.  Projects are due the week of February 23rd.  Students will  be  allowed to work in class on February 5th and perhaps 6th depending how Thursday goes.

This will represent part of their research and speaking grades fore the 3rd quarter.  Grades  will be reflected on the next progress report.

Tuesday is a science test and science extra credit is due.  There will be no additional homework given.

I apologize for not posting this week.  I was home sick.  Students did not receive homework Monday or yesterday.

Today we reviewed Monday's lesson on the layers of the Earth.  They will have a test on this next  week Tuesday.  As always they may take a workbook home to review the Earth's layers.

Extra credit opportunity due by next  Tuesday is to create a 3D model of Earth's layers.  The layers must be properly and  accurately labeled.

We discussed our next research project which will be due the last two weeks of February.  I will assign specific  dates Friday.  They may work alone, with a partner, or small group-no more than four.  The theme is Greece.  Ancient and/or modern day.  This will be  both a research grade and a speaking grade so the project must be presented.  Students will have a choice on what they would like to research.  They are required to have a visual, be it a power point, poster board, model, diorama, etc.

They created posters for Alumni Night of their fond memories of Hale  School.

Students took a science test today.  They also received two writing assignments.  One on comparing and contrasting renewable and nonrenewable resources.  They other was to explain and give examples of the 3 Rs.  This is to be   completed for homework if it is not already submitted.

Students presented science fair projects today.  We also read about and discussed people's impact on the land.  We watched a video on mining coal and reviewed renewable and nonrenewable resources.  No homework.
